The dangers of the incredibly popular dietary supplement, Hydroxycut, were announced to the public by the United States government on Friday May 1st. According to numerous reports from Hydroxycut users, the pill can cause severe liver damage and even death. Hydroxycut is advertised as containing all natural ingredient, but has been shown to cause mild to severe liver problems.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there have been at least 23 reported cases of serious liver damage, ranging in severity from jaundice (a yellowing of the skin due to liver problems) to total liver failure. At least one person has had to undergo a liver transplant because of the damage caused by Hydroxycut, and another victim was placed on a liver transplant waiting list.
In extreme cases, this liver damage can lead to fatality. In 2007, a 19-year-old boy who used the product died from liver failure. His death was only reported to the FDA this past March. With regards to dietary supplements, the USDA has somewhat more relaxed regulations than it has on the sale and distribution of medications. For a medication to be allowed on the market, the manufacturer has to be able to prove that the medicine is safe for consumption.
However, in the case of dietary supplements, the FDA will only remove a product once reports have been made of medical problems and damages associated with it. As such, the dangers of Hydroxycut were not fully realized until reports of liver damage began to come in from users, and the unfortunate death of a teenager in 2007 was reported.

Hydroxycut has been one of the most popular dietary supplements available in the United States over the past few years. It accounts for approximately 90 percent of the diet pill market, and claims sales of around 1 million bottles each and every year. It has become extremely popular among people looking to quickly lose weight and achieve their ideal body type.
Officials are unsure which particular ingredients in the supplement is dangerous, and are strongly encouraging anyone taking any of the 14 Hydroxycut products available on the market to discontinue using them immediately.
If you are currently taking any Hydroxycut products, you should discontinue use of these immediately to protect yourself from serious liver damage, especially as many of the dangers posed by this supplement are not fully understood at the current time.
